At Rosser Grosse Isle (located in the village of Rosser 10 minutes past the perimeter on HWY 221) worship service begins at 9:45 am. At Sparling United (located at 1960 William Ave West 1 block east of Route 90) worship service begins at 11:30 am.
Rosser Grosse Isle offers Sunday School and has around 20-25 children from ages 4-10. Children begin the worship in the sanctuary with their families and are then dismissed for Sunday School after children’s time around 10am.
Sparling United Church currently offers no Sunday School.
We’ve all heard the phrase “put on your Sunday best!”. Well that doesn’t apply to either Rosser Grosse Isle or Sparling United Church. We strive to have a sense of respectful, dignified worship while at the same time maintaining a relaxed and comfortable environment. Some people dress up in suits and dresses, but most wear what they would any other day. We have folks come in jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sandals, suit and tie – its really a mixed crowd. Wear what makes you comfortable. The only clothing that we would discourage is clothing with inappropriate language, logo’s or pictures that may cause distraction or offense to others.
Both Rosser Grosse Isle and Sparling United would categorize ourselves as “small churches with big hearts”. Our average worship attendance would be approximately 40-60 people (except big holidays like Christmas and Easter where we tend to double in size). The nice thing about a small church is that you can form strong bonds of friendship here. However, just because we are small doesn’t mean we aren’t active. Both Rosser and Sparling are actively engaged in the communities we serve through women’s ministries, UCW, food bank, clothing collection and drop off, shelter support, petition writing, conversational English, refugee settlement assistance, Bible study, seniors ministry and the list goes on. If you are wanting to make a difference in the world we can guarantee that you will have an opportunity with us.
Rosser Grosse Isle and Sparling United Church are member churches in The United Church of Canada. We look to Scripture and Tradition to form our core beliefs and find our unity through diversity. We strive to be progressive and rooted in the social gospel lifting up the priesthood of all believers. We acknowledge two sacraments, Baptism and Holy Communion. For more information on The United Church of Canada visit our denominational website at www.united-church.ca
At both Sparling and Rosser we follow the Revised Common Lectionary. This means that the Scripture readings follow a pattern and cycle that is shared among many Christian traditions. The Pastor will explain the context of the readings, their significance to the people of that time and their continuing significance to us today.
